I visited a charming little bakery and cafe in Tiong Bahru recently. Amidst the old shop-houses, Drips Bakery Cafe stood out with its bright, modern yet homely interior. We were greeted by young and somewhat good-looking staff, which I guess made the experience a little bit more pleasant. You can call me shallow but it works. Heh.
I was entertaining overseas guests and the ambiance was conducive enough for a casual business chit chat. The person at the table beside me was even doing a presentation of his company’s services (I think… I wasn’t eavesdropping) to this pretty and well-dressed lady. Yes, such sightings do add to the “decor”.
We ordered a Mango & Raspberry Tart (S$7.80) and a slice of Chocolate Truffle Cake (S$7.80) as well as drinks – Latte (S$4.80), Long Black (S$4.50) and a refreshing Drips Ice Shaken Lemon Tea (S$5). Whatever shakes works for me! Ok, private joke…haha. Beyond pastries, Drips also serve a savory range of salads, sandwiches and quiches.
The Chocolate Truffle Cake was rich and best shared, while the tart is easily consumed by one mildly hungry person. The tart’s pastry base was crunchy and not soggy, which was a big plus point for me. I’ve tried too many tarts, even from good and reputable pastry shops, with semi-soggy pastry bases. So this was a pleasant surprise for me.
